This course is the ideal starting point for those working with clients impacted by the social security benefits system. It provides the starting point, enabling you to signpost and support your clients in an informed way as they attempt to navigate a complex and changing system. We will explore:

  • The social security benefits system in Northern Ireland. 
  • Categories of benefits. 
  • Basic principles of disputing a benefit decision.

This short course is ideal for those working with clients with illnesses or disabilities. It will introduce Personal Independence Payments (PIP), a benefit for working age (16-25) individuals who need support with mobility or daily living. It will take about 6 hours and cover: 

•The eligibility and entitlement rules to make a claim for PIP
•The disability testes to qualify for PIP
•The PIP rates and components and how to qualify
•The PIP application process and procedure
•The NI PIP Mitigations package

This short course will look at which benefits are available to support students in further and higher education.
